According to reference in rock inscription, this place in ancient times was known as “Oad”. In the temple and on the Parikar of the idol of Sri Ambikadevi, an inscription is found dated Ashadh Sukla 9 in Vikram year 1141 which refers to Sri Mahavir Bhagwan. In the hall of the inner Sanctum, on some idols in the standing posture there are inscriptions dated Vikram year 1242 wherein Sri Mahavir Bhagwan is stated to be Presiding Deity. In “Chaitya Paripati” composted in 15th Vikram century by Saint Sri Sadhuchandra, reference is also made to Sri Mahavir Bhagwan. The present idol is Sri Adishvar Bhagwan may have been ceremonially installed at a later period after some renovations. The idol is an ancient one. However no inscription is found thereon.Every year on Falgun Krishna 1, a flag is hoisted here on the mast of the temple sikhar. There is no other temple in the vicinity here.
