It was called as Toran because of the Torans tied here during the Naag-yagna performed by Shri Janmejaya at Naagda. The present name of the village is said to be emerged during the Muslim reign. Looking at the remaining of 10th & 11th centuries, present in the temple & the making of the idol; it can be imagined that the teerth temple was established much before the 10th century. Some remaining belonging to Gupta reign also indicates the ancientness of the place.
