SHRI GAJPANTHA TIRTH

  • SHRI GAJPANTHA TIRTH

According to Jain scriptures, this is believed to be an ancient shrine of remote past. Repairs and renovations on this temple were carried out at the instance of Mysore king Sri Chamraj Odiyar in Vikram 9th century. It is said that at this place, seven Balbhadra Saints and numerous other saints of Yadav dynasty had attained Moksha. One of these was also Sri Gajsukumar Nuni that is the reason why this place is called Gajpantha. Since the period of when Sri Chamraj Odiyar got repairs and renovations carried out here, people started called it also Chamar-Leni.There is no other temple nearby. The temple having been located in a quiet soltitude of a hill surrounded by wild area near a small village looks very charming from a distance. The idol looks peaceful, sober and serene.
