SHRI RAMTEK TIRTH

  • SHRI RAMTEK TIRTH

The story of this shrine goes back to pre-historic times. According to Jain scriptures, its history is contemporaneous with that of 20th Tirthankar of the present cycle of time Sri Munisuvratswami. Acharya Ravisen while mentioning about the building of thousands of Jain temples in Vamshgiri in his composition entitled Padmapuran has suggested that the same Vamshgiri later had changed to Ramgiri.Towards the end of 16th century, Bhattarak Gnansagarji in verses 95 and 96 of his compositions “Sarva Tirth Vandana” has sung about the significance of Sri Shanthinath Bhagwan seated in Ramtek and has further asserted that he is the giver of all that one desires.Adjacent to this temple, there are 8 more temples and high majestic commemoration pillar (Mana stambh). The architectural style displayed in the construction of these Sikhars is ancient., incomparable and unique which compels attention.
