The ancient name of this place was Shravangiri. A reference is available about renovations having been carried out here in Vikram year 335. History of the period earlier than this is difficult to find. The mere sight of the temple makes one feel that several times such renovations must have been carried out here. According to Jain scriptures, numerous saints, Nang, Anand Attained Moksha at this place. It is stated that even the “Samosaran” of the 8th Tirthankar of the present cycle was held here. Besides this temple, there are other 126 temples on this mountain which can be sighted from a long distance. At the base also, there are 25 more temples. On this beautiful mountain, the architectural style of temples easily attracts visitors. Each temple is different in style from the other. There is one kund (small reservoir) which is out in a rock and is coconut shaped. There is one other rock which when struck produces sound like the one coming from metal. It is therefore called “ringing rock” (Bajani Shila). The cluster of these temples on the mountain appears extremely enchanting . The cleanliness and other arrangements regarding this shrine is praiseworthy.
