SHRI DEVPATTAN TIRTH

  • SHRI DEVPATTAN TIRTH

The small village of Dawad today was earlier well known as Dawadpur, Devakipattan, Devpattan etc.,Looking at the ancient and artistic relics, remnants and the wreckage of the temple, small shrine etc., this village must have been a vast city once upon a time. While laying the foundation in one of the house, 200 damaged idols of Prabhu were found which were later immersed in the lake. Similarly, in yet an other house, idols of Sri Mahavir Bhagwan, Dharnendra-Padmavati and Sri Parshvaprabhu were found which are present in the temple. But today this is the only temple present here which is believed to be belonging of a period earlier to the 7th century. May be, it must have got renovated then, because the prime idol of the temple was consecrated by King Samprati. There are 6 more ancient idols in the temple. The chief significance of this ancient teerth are the seven Vavadias, vast surrounded lake of 7 acres and a shikharband temple. This vast lake was built by Sri Siddharaj Jaisinh’s queen Haansaldevi who is well known as Haansalser.Impressed with the discourse of Acharya Kamalsuriji, the Jagirdar of this place, restricted people from fishing in the lake. It is restricted even today. No other temple exist here besides this temple.
