Ancient Shri 1008 Bhagwan Vardhamana Mahavira Digambar Jain Temple is a famous Jain Temple. The Famous Jain Thirth in Karanatka is Sankighatta, which is located in Magadi, Ram Nagara.Hoysala Emperor Narasimha I built a Thirth called as Dallina Vardamana Mahaveera Thirthankara Jain Basadi, in respect of members of his Royal family who followed Jainism and shifted and settled in Sankighatta from Belur Halebdu. "Settru" is the name given to this Royal Family Members and Narasimha I appointed them as the Incharge (Dharmadhikari) of this other Jain Tirths in and around this city. They also known as Samanta Rajas of Hoysala. Even after converting to Vaishnavism (Following Hindu Lord Vishnu), by King Bittideva/Vishnu Vardhana, the Settru, original descendant of Hoysala followed Jainisim. There is 2 opinion about the Queen Shanthaladevi, who followed Jainism till the end of her life and lived in Sankighatta. The Historians defers that she took Sallekhana (one Jain Ritual) at Shravanabelagoa and others say that it was at Shivaganga Hills. In Sankighatta, the descendants of Settru, Hoysala Royal Family are still lives. The important attraction of this tirth is the 11th century early Hoysala architecture Jain temple and which has a sparkling gold colored metal idol of Bhagawan Mahaveera as the main deity. It is a unique Lord Mahaveer metal idol in the world (Idol looks like a small boy standing with smiling face), it looks more attractive when a Mastakabhiseka is performed.
