Who am I ? Answer in Jainism
In Jainism, the answer to “Who am I?” is: you are a jiva — a living, conscious soul.
- The jiva is the true self: pure, with infinite knowledge, perception, bliss, and energy.
- The body, mind, and senses are not the self; they are instrumental but fleeting.
- What binds the jiva is karma (material particles that cling to the soul). When karma is shed, the jiva’s true nature shines: infinite auspicious qualities and freedom.
- Liberation (moksha) means shedding all karmic bonds and realizing the pure, liberated state of the soul.
To realize “who I am,” Jainism teaches a path of: samyak darshan (right faith), samyak jnana (right knowledge), and samyak charitra (right conduct). By practicing non-violence (ahimsa), truth (satya), non-attachment (aparigraha), celibacy, and non-stealing, one gradually frees the soul from karma and awakens to its true nature. In this framework, every jiva is potentially a perfectly enlightened soul, including you.
