Three path of liberation
Three path of liberation in Jainism (Ratnatraya)
- Samyak Darshan (Right Faith): Correct perception and trust in the true nature of the soul, karma, and the path to liberation.
- Samyak Jnana (Right Knowledge): Correct understanding of Jain teachings, the tattvas, and how karma binds and is shed.
- Samyak Charitra (Right Conduct): Living by right ethics and vows, to prevent new karmas from attaching and to shed old karmas.
Notes:
- These three are the core path to liberation (moksha) for all Jain traditions. Some texts also mention a fourth adjunct, Samyak Tap (Right Asceticism), as an important aid in purification, but the foundational trio remains Samyak Darshan, Samyak Jnana, and Samyak Charitra. Digambar and Shwetambar traditions both acknowledge these three, with differences mainly in emphasis on certain practices and scriptures rather than in the basic framework.
