When kshamwani happens
Kshamavani is the Jain festival of forgiveness. There are two related observances, depending on the sect:
- Digambar Jains: Kshamavani is observed on the first day of Ashwin Krishna Paksha (Das Lakshana Parva). In 2025, this is on 5 September.
- Śvetāmbara Jains: They observe Samvatsari, the last day of Paryushan, with Micchami Dukkadam. In 2025, Samvatsari is on 28 August.
Key idea: on Kshamavani or forgiveness day, Jains seek forgiveness from all living beings and offer forgiveness in return, symbolizing peace and non-violence. The phrase often used is Micchami Dukkadam.
