Kshamavani means asking for forgiveness. In Jainism it is a humble, heartfelt request to all living beings—human, animal, plant, and even invisible beings—to pardon us for any hurt we may have caused, on purpose or by mistake, through our thoughts, words, or actions. It helps us keep our intention gentle and our mind full of non-violence (ahimsa).

Kid-friendly explanation you can share with your 10- and 12-year-olds:

    • We all make small mistakes, sometimes without realizing it. Kshamavani is a way to say, “I’m sorry for hurting anyone, and I promise to do better.”
    • It isn’t about saying sorry to one person only; it’s a blessing to everyone and everything around us.
    • It helps us grow to be more patient, kinder, and less angry.
    • It also helps us to listen better and to think before we act, so we don’t hurt others again.

A simple, child-friendly version you can say together at night (you can adjust the words to fit your family’s tradition):

    • “Kshamā meṅ, jikaṁ kāṅkha bhūlo ya galatī se karnā hua ho, sab ko kshā māṅgūṅ. Apni galti ko samajh kar, aage se dhairya aur ahimsa se pesh āūṅgā/āūṅgī.”
    • “Khamā chāhūṅ, sab ke prati meri bhāwanā meṁ shānti ho. Aise bhav‑bhavishya meṁ maiṁ/maiṅ dhairya, dayā, aur vinay rakhoṅga/rakhoṅgī.”

Short explanation you can share aloud:

    • Hum sab galti karte hain. Kshamavani se hum kehte hain: “Mujhe maaf kijiye, main aage aur achha karunga/karungi.” Isse hum sab milkar shant aur dayalu rehte hain.

    About Digambar vs. Shwetambar:

Agar aap chahen, main aapke liye is par ek chhota, saaf-suthra lekh bana sakta/sakti hoon jo aapke das lakshan ki raat ke saath mil kar rehe.
