Airāvata Kshetra is one of the seven zones (kshetra) of Jambūdvīpa in Jain cosmology. It is located in the middle world (madhyaloka), toward the north of the central landmass, and is named after the great region associated with the Airāvata path. In this region flow the rivers Raktā and Raktodā. This kshetra, along with Bharata and Videha, is described as a karmabhumi—an area where spiritual practices and austerities are possible and where Tirthankaras teach the Jain path. The other regions (Ramyaka, Hairyanyavata, and Haimavata) are considered bhogabhumi, where normal worldly life and pleasures predominate. There are no major doctrinal differences about Airāvata between Digambara and Śvetāmbara traditions; the basic cosmology is shared.
