• Janma Kalyanaka: birth of the Tirthankara
• Diksha Kalyanaka: renunciation and becoming an ascetic
• Keval Jnana Kalyanaka: attainment of omniscience
• Nirvana Kalyanaka: the Tirthankara’s liberation at the end of life

These places are important pilgrimage sites for Jains because they mark the key spiritual milestones in a Tirthankara’s life. Different Tirthankaras have their Kalyanak Bhoomi in different regions, and some sites are especially revered because several Tirthankaras’ Kalyanaks are linked there. A well-known example is that many Tirthankaras’ Nirvana Kalyanak are associated with Shikharji, while other sites are tied to birth, renunciation, or Kevaljnana for various Tirthankaras.
