What is aatma sidhi?
Aatma siddhi means the attainment or realization of the soul (aatma) in its true nature. In Jainism, this centers on recognizing that the soul is pure, free, and possessive of its own right knowledge, perception, and bliss, once all bondage is removed.
Key points:
- Aatma = the individual soul. Siddhi = attainment or perfection.
- The goal is to realize the soul’s true nature, beyond body, mind, and external influences.
- This realization leads to liberation (moksha) and permanent inner peace, because the soul shines with right knowledge (keval-jnan) and freedom from karma.
- In practice, aatma siddhi involves ethical living, right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct, so that karmic bondage is burnt off and the soul’s true attributes are experienced.
Differences between Digambar and Shwetambar:
- Both traditions affirm that the ultimate aim is the soul’s pure, liberated state. The language and emphasis may differ in certain scriptures or commentaries, but the essential idea of realizing the soul and shedding karma remains the same.
In short: aatma siddhi is the soul’s own realization of its pure nature and its liberation from all bondage, leading to boundless infinite knowledge, perception, and bliss.
