Ashtapad Tirth, also called Ashtapad or Asthapad, is a very old and sacred Jain site associated with the first Tirthankar, Rishabhdev (Adinath). It is traditionally believed to be the place where he attained nirvana (moksha), famously described as a mountain with eight steps (Ashta-pad). The Kailash/Mount Kailash region near Tibet is widely linked in Jain tradition to Ashtapad, but no final, verifiable physical site has been confirmed there. Many Jains remember and honor Ashtapad through temples and replicas elsewhere in India, while keeping the spiritual significance of the original place intact. There is also a common understanding among Jains that the exact geographic location is difficult to prove definitively, and devotion remains focused on the理念 of moksha and Rin chhodo (renunciation) that Ashtapad represents.
