jain chomasa 2025
In Jainism, Chomasa (also spelled as Chaturmas or Chaumasa) refers to the four-month period during the monsoon season when Jain monks and nuns stay in one place, observing intensified spiritual practices and avoiding travel to minimize harm to living beings.
For 2025, Chaturmas will begin on Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi (the 11th day of the bright half of the Ashadha month) and end on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi (the 11th day of the bright half of the Kartik month) according to the traditional Jain calendar.
Approximate Gregorian dates for Chaturmas (Chomasa) in 2025:
- Start: July 6, 2025 (Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi)
- End: November 3, 2025 (Kartik Shukla Ekadashi)
During this period, Jains engage in increased spiritual activities such as fasting (Paryushan, Das Lakshan), meditation, and scriptural study. Monks and nuns remain stationary to uphold the principle of non-violence (Ahimsa).
