In Jain cosmology, time is cyclical and divided into two halves: Avasarpini (the descending half) and Utsarpini (the ascending half). We are currently in Avasarpini. There is no fixed human-era date for when the next half-cycle will begin—the transition to the next half-cycle would occur only after the current half-cycle completes, which the texts describe as a vast, cosmic time far beyond our ordinary calendars.
