- Father: Siddhartha (a Ksatriya king, Kundagrama/Kundagrama region)
- Mother: Trishala (also called Videhadutta, sister of Chetaka of Vaishali)
- Elder brother: Nandivardhana
- Sister: Sudarshana
- (Other kin mentioned in some texts, e.g., Suparśva as an uncle in certain recensions)
- Spouse and children (depending on tradition)
- Svetambara tradition:
- Wife: Yaśodā (Yashoda), daughter of Samarvira
- Daughter: Priyadarṣanā (also called Anojjā/Anoja)
- Son-in-law: Jamali (husband of Priyadarṣanā)
- Digambara tradition:
- Mahavir is not married in this line of narratives; no wife or daughter is recorded
- In Svetambara accounts, Priyadarśanā’s daughter is sometimes named Yasomati or Sesavati (granddaughter of Mahavir)
Notes
- The Svetambara and Digambara accounts differ on Mahavir’s marriage and offspring. Both traditions agree on his noble lineage and his role as the 24th Tirthankara.
