After someone’s death, what is the reason for not going to the temple

    11 months ago 213

In Jainism there isn’t a universal rule that says you must not go to a temple after someone dies. Practices vary by community and region, and by Digambar vs. Shwetambar traditions.

    What tends to happen:

    • Many families observe a mourning period after a death, during which daily routines are reduced and devotional activities may be toned down. In some cases this includes limiting temple visits or formal puja for a certain number of days, out of respect and to focus on rituals related to the departed soul.
    • Some communities continue regular temple visits and shrines as usual, while others temporarily refrain from certain pujas or gatherings during the mourning period.

Key idea in all cases: the emphasis is on the karma of the soul and the family’s reverence for the departed. The exact customs depend on local tradition, temple guidelines, and the family’s interpretation of Jain dharma. If you have a particular tradition in mind (Digambar or Shwetambar, or a specific region), I can clarify the customary practices for that lineage.
