Shanti samyak dharana
Shanti samyak dharana is not a separate Jain sutra you’ll find as an independent text. In Jain usage, it points to two ideas together:
- Shanti: peace, calm of mind, harmony for all beings.
- Samyak Dharana (often called samyak or right concentration/perception): a correct, focused mental attitude as part of the path (along with right faith and right conduct).
In practice, this phrase evokes praying for true inner peace while keeping the right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct as the path to that peace. It also aligns with the broader Jain aim of removing inner obstacles and worldly suffering so one can progress on the spiritual path.
Note on tradition:
- Digambaras and Śvetāmbaras both revere the idea of peace and the importance of right faith/conduct, but there can be slight wording or emphasis differences in specific stotras. The core meaning of seeking peace through proper understanding and conduct is common to both.
