Alochana Path verse 6
Here is Alochana Path verse 6 as in the Hindi rendering often cited in practice:
विपरीत एकांत विनय के, संशय अज्ञान कुनय के। वश होय घोर अघ कीने, वचतैं नहिं जाय कहीने॥
कुगुरुन की सेवा कीनी, केवल अदयाकरि भीनी। या विधि मिथ्यात भ्ऱमायो, चहुंगति मधि दोष उपायो॥
Meaning (arth) in Jain tradition:
- The verse warns that if one is influenced by the opposite of proper solitude, humility, doubt, and ignorance, one can fall into grave sins, and one’s words cannot convey the truth or apology properly.
- It also reflects on how false beliefs and misdirections (like believing in wrong paths) only spread more faults and lead the mind astray.
Notes:
- The Alochana Path is a self-purifying prayer recited during Pratikraman. Verse 6 emphasizes caution against counterproductive inner states (doubt, ignorance) that block true repentance and expressiveness.
- There are slight wording differences between Digambar and Shvetambar traditions in various Alochana Path texts, but the core theme—confession, humility, and turning away from faults—remains the same.
