On borders of India we can't keep non violence as a tool

    11 months ago 41

Jain Dharma places ahimsa (non-violence) as the highest principle. In Jain thought, violence creates karmic bondage, so using violence as a tool—even for border protection—goes against the core teaching of non-injury to all living beings.

    What this means in practice:

    • Non-violence is meant to guide thoughts, speech, and actions. For a state, this implies minimizing harm in all measures: diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian efforts should aim to reduce harm to all beings.
    • Self-defense is addressed in Jain literature not as an endorsement of aggression, but as a last resort with the least possible harm. The ideal is to protect life while causing the minimum violence, if any.
    • Real-world policy often requires pragmatic decisions. Jainism would encourage measures that avoid killing or injuring, seek peaceful resolutions first, and create systems (like border management and de-radicalization) that reduce harm overall.

    Differences between Digambar and Shwetambar:

    • Both traditions uphold ahimsa as central. There are nuanced differences in certain texts and practices, but neither tradition supports violence as a preferred or virtuous tool for protecting borders.

In short: from a Jain perspective, non-violence remains the supreme guiding principle, and any use of force would need to be strictly minimized and approached only if no other option can prevent greater harm.
