    How to save money

    11 months ago 91

Here are Jain concerns and practical tips for saving money, rooted in aparigraha (non-attachment to possessions):

    • Know what you need, not what you want. Keep possessions to what is necessary for daily living and duties as a householder. This reduces waste and unnecessary expense.
    • Cut impulsive buying. Before purchasing, ask:
    - Is this needed for basic living or only for show? - Will it cause attachment or harm to other beings (including the environment)?
    • Budget with restraint. Plan purchases, save regularly, and avoid debt that ties you to interest and stress.
    • Practice contentment (santosh). Be happy with what you have; avoid chasing excess wealth or luxury.
    • Reuse, repair, and minimalism. Repair items when possible, repurpose what you already own, and choose durable goods over fast, short‑life items.
    • Share and donate surplus. Surplus wealth can be used for the welfare of others; charity aligns with right conduct and reduces hoarding.
    • Ethical considerations. Do not invest in ventures that harm living beings or the environment; let your money support ahimsa (non‑violence) and ecological balance.
    • Step by step: keep a simple household vow (as a layperson) to limit acquisitions, and gradually reduce possessions you no longer need. This helps financial peace and spiritual progress.
