As per jain theory every physical ailment should see with sa.yak bhav. Should one not take treatment

    one year ago 133

In Jainism, the concept of "samyak bhav" (right attitude or right perception) is very important in facing all situations, including physical ailments. According to Jain philosophy, suffering and ailments are considered results of one's past karmas. Facing them with equanimity (samyak bhav) is encouraged.

However, Jain scriptures and teachings do not prohibit taking medical treatment. Jain Acharyas have advised that one should strive to maintain their health, as a healthy body is necessary for spiritual practices. Not taking treatment out of negligence would be considered carelessness (pramāda), which is discouraged.

    Key points from Jain teachings:

    • Samyak Bhav means maintaining equanimity and not getting disturbed by pain or pleasure, but it does not mean neglecting the body.
    • Ahimsa (Non-violence): Preserving one's own life and health is also a form of ahimsa.
    • Use of Medicine: Jain texts mention that monks and householders may use medicines, provided they do not violate the principles of non-violence and other vows.
    • Purposeful Suffering: Jainism does not promote unnecessary suffering. One should not deliberately avoid treatment to generate suffering.

Summary: Jainism teaches us to face ailments with equanimity (samyak bhav), but it does not forbid taking treatment. One should take proper care of the body and seek appropriate medical help, while maintaining a detached and balanced attitude towards both health and sickness.
