Want to know the original uvasagram stotra
Uvasaggaharam Stotra (often called Uvasaggaharam Sutra in some texts) is a revered Jain prayer in praise of Tirthankara Parshvanath. It is traditionally attributed to Acharya Bhadrabahu and is part of the Nav Smaran (nine sacred recitations). Here is the original text as found in classical Jain sutra tradition (4 verses in the commonly cited form).
Original text (Prakrit/Sanskrit mix as preserved in many Jain scriptures): 1
Meaning (arth) in simple terms:
- I bow to Lord Parshvanath, whose boundless compassion removes all worries and obstacles; he is the abode of auspiciousness and well-being.
- He who is free of karma and grants protection from suffering, disease, and the harms of old age; he is the guardian of health and safety.
- I seek shelter in the holy Jinas, and I bow to the Tirthankar who destroys fears and protects life.
- By trusting in him and with a steadfast mind, one attains spiritual wealth (like a jewel) and moves toward a peaceful, unhindered life.
Traditions (Digambar/Shwetambar) note:
- The core stotra is widely venerated in both Digambar and Shwetambar communities. There can be minor textual variants or phrasing differences in different manuscripts, but the essential worship and its purpose—removal of obstacles and protection—remain the same.
