    All 9 smaran

    11 months ago 520

Nav Smaran (nine remembrance prayers) are the core set of daily recitations in the Śvetāmbara tradition, though the Digambar tradition may place a slightly different emphasis. The standard nine are:

    1) Namaskära Mantra (Namaskara Mantra) — reverence to Arihants, Siddhas, Ācārya, Upādhyāya, and Sādhu/Muni; foundational salute to the spiritual lineage. 2) Uvasaggaharam Stotra — prayer for relief from obstacles and misfortunes. 3) Santikaram Stotra — hymn of peace and serenity. 4) Tijaypahutta Stotra — praise of the conquerors and those who have overcome attachments. 5) Namiuna Stotra — devotion to revered Tirthankaras or worthy beings. 6) Ajit Shānti Stavana — prayer for calm, fearlessness, and inner peace. 7) Bhaktämara Stotra — devotional hymn venerating supreme compassionate beings and tattvas. 8) Kalyän Mandir Stotra — litany for auspicious temple rites and sanctity of worship places. 9) Brihad Shānti Stotra — extended peace hymn used in various ritual contexts, including temple installations.

Arth (brief meanings at a glance)

    • Each smaran reinforces core Jain aims: proper reverence (five supreme beings), right faith, right knowledge, right conduct, and inner purification.
    • The nine together frame a holistic practice: devotion, protection from karmic obstacles, inner peace, and auspicious conduct on the path to liberation.
    • Note: both Śvetāmbara and Digambara accept the nine, though wording and emphasis can vary slightly between sects.

If you’d like, I can provide the exact original verses for any of the nine and explain any minor Digambara vs. Śvetāmbara differences in wording, while keeping the Jain interpretation clear and faithful.
