    Show Jaap mudras

    11 months ago 83

Jaap mudras are simple hand gestures used during mantra recitation and prayer in Jain practice. Here are some common ones you can use:

    • Namokar Mudra (Anjali Mudra): Palms joined together at chest level, fingers pointing upward. It expresses humility and paying obeisance to Arihants, Siddhas, Acharyas, Upadhyayas, and Sadhus. How to do it:
    - Bring palms together in front of the chest, fingers upright and close, thumbs lightly touching the center.
    • Dhyana Mudra: Hands in the lap, right hand resting on the left, palms upward, with thumbs lightly touching. Used for meditation and inner focus. How to do it:
    - Sit comfortably, place right hand on top of the left with the backs of the hands touching, thumbs forming a circle.
    • Abhaya Mudra: Right hand raised to shoulder height, palm outward, fingers extended. It signifies fearlessness and protection. How to do it:
    - Raise the right hand in front of you with the palm open and facing outward.
    • Varada Mudra: Right hand lowered with palm outward, fingers extended downward. It denotes mercy and granting of blessings. How to do it:
    - Lower the right hand from chest or shoulder level, palm facing outward.

    Tips for Jaap mudras:

    • Use them gently and with awareness, not as mere motions.
    • Combine mudras with the recitation of a mantra or prayers you follow (e.g., Namokar Mantra or other Jain stotras).
    • Maintain a calm posture and steady breath to support focused jaap.

If you were thinking of a specific Jain tradition or a particular Jaap procedure, tell me a bit more, and I’ll tailor the mudras and steps accordingly.
