Is it true mahaveera told work for higher job positions
Short answer: No. Mahavira did not teach or encourage people to seek higher worldly job positions as a goal.
What he taught was:
- For monks and nuns: renounce wealth, power, and worldly rank to seek spiritual liberation (moksha) through right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct.
- For laypersons: live with ahimsa (non-violence) and dharma, using wealth and status for the welfare of others, but not letting status become a bond that hinders spiritual progress.
Mahavira’s own life (from a prince to a renouncer) is often cited to show that true fulfillment lies in spiritual progress, not in accumulating power or rank. If you’re thinking of a specific teaching or text, tell me the exact reference and I’ll explain its Jain interpretation.
