Potato is_anant-kay_ (infinite-bodied). In Jainism, kand-mool (root vegetables) like potatoes are avoided because a single root plant is believed to host countless jivas and uprooting harms many beings. This view is shared by both Śvetāmbara and Digambara traditions. So, potato is considered anant-kāy and is typically not eaten by practicing Jains, especially during strict periods like Paryushan.
