Namothunam after sootra
Namokar (Namōkāra) mantra—often chanted after a stotra or at the start of prayer—is the central Jain salutation. The standard form is the fivefold Namokar:
Namō Arihantanāṁ Namō Siddhānāṁ Namō Āryaṇāṁ Namō Muniṇāṁ Namō Śādhīnāṁ
Arth (meaning)
- Namō Arihantanāṁ: I bow to the Arihants (enlightened beings who have conquered inner passions and attained kevala jñāna).
- Namō Siddhānāṁ: I bow to the Siddhas (liberated souls who have conquered all karma and dwelt in Moksha).
- Namō Āryaṇāṁ: I bow to the Acharyas (spiritual teachers who guide the Jain sangha).
- Namō Muniṇāṁ: I bow to the Sādhu/monks (monastic guardians who practice and preserve the path).
- Namō Śādhīnāṁ: I bow to all spiritual seekers and to those who have renounced the world.
Notes
- This fivefold salutation is common to both Digambar and Śvetāmbar traditions, though there can be minor pronunciation or ending variants in different lineages.
- If you want, I can provide the script in Devanagari or a transliteration, or explain how it is used in a specific stotra context.
