Chattari Mangalam (Chaattaari Mangalam) – four auspicious paths

Original text (Prakrit/Devanagari): चत्तारिमंगलम अरिहंत मंगल़, सिद्ध मंगलं, साहु मंगलं, केवलीपण्णत्तो धम्मो मंगलं।

चत्तारि लोगुत्तमा अरिहंत लोगुत्तमा, सिद्ध लोगुत्तमा, साहु लोगुत्तमा, केवलीपण्णत्तो धम्मो लोगुत्तमा।

चत्तारि सरणं पव्वज्जामि अरिहंत सरणं पव्वज्जामि, सिद्ध सरणं पव्वज्जामि, साह सरणं पव्वज्जामि, केवलीपण्णत्तो धम्मो सरणं पवज्जामि।

Meaning (arth) in brief:

• The four are the most auspicious in the universe: Arihants (enlightened beings who have conquered inner enemies), Siddhas (liberated souls), Sadhus (monks/nuns), and the Dharma taught by the Kevalis.
• We seek refuge in these four: in the Arihants, in the Siddhas, in the Sadhus, and in the Dharma expounded by the Kevalis.
• This prayer expresses reverence for these four great supports and asks for their shelter and blessings on the spiritual path.
