Story of 2nd tirthankar
The 2nd Tirthankar of Jainism is Shri Ajitnath Bhagwan.
Birth and Early Life: Ajitnath Bhagwan was born to King Jitashatru and Queen Vijaya at Ayodhya in the Ikshvaku dynasty. According to Jain tradition, his birth brought immense happiness and prosperity to the kingdom.
Renunciation: After a long and prosperous rule, Ajitnath Bhagwan developed detachment from worldly life. He renounced his kingdom, wealth, and family, and became a monk. He performed severe penance (tapasya) and followed the path of self-restraint and non-violence.
Kevalgyan and Preaching: Through deep meditation and spiritual practices, he attained Kevalgyan (omniscience), the ultimate knowledge. After attaining Kevalgyan, Ajitnath Bhagwan became a Tirthankar, establishing the fourfold Jain Sangh (monk, nun, layman, laywoman) and preaching the path of right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct (Samyak Darshan, Samyak Gyan, Samyak Charitra).
Significant Stories: One notable story involves Ajitnath Bhagwan subduing the wild elephant "Mahapadma" with compassion and non-violence, demonstrating the power of ahimsa (non-violence) and spiritual strength. This act inspired many to follow the path of Jainism.
Nirvana: Ajitnath Bhagwan attained Moksha (liberation) at Sammed Shikharji, freeing himself from the cycle of birth and death.
Symbol: His symbol is an elephant, and he is often depicted with this emblem in Jain iconography.
Legacy: Ajitnath Bhagwan’s life exemplifies the Jain values of compassion, renunciation, and self-realization, and his teachings continue to inspire Jains around the world.
