Full meaning of alochna path
Alochna Path (also called Alochana Paath) is a Jain prayer used mainly during Pratikraman (self-reflection and repentance). Its central theme is confession: acknowledging one’s faults and transgressions, and renewing the mind and conduct toward right faith and behavior. It invites guidance from the Tirthankaras, the guru, and all living beings, so the soul may purify and recommit to the path.
Key points:
- Alochna = confession or self-critique of both known and unknowingly committed faults.
- Purpose: purify the mind and conduct, seek forgiveness, and vow to avoid the faults in the future.
- Practice context: commonly recited during Pratikraman and Samayik, and also in daily personal practice.
- Textual note: the opening couplet typically bows to the five supreme gurus and the twenty-four Jinas; the rest of the verses articulate fault, remorse, and the resolve to improve.
Differences between Digambar and Shwetambar traditions:
- The wording can vary between Digambar and Shwetambar recensions, but the core meaning remains the same: confession, purification, and renewed commitment to right conduct.
