Palitana is historically a Svetāmbara Jain site. The main temple complex on Shatrunjaya hills is considered the holiest shrine for the Śvetāmbara Mūrtipuja tradition, and most pilgrims visiting Palitana belong to Śvetāmbara communities. Digambar Jains do have a presence there, but it is limited compared to the Śvetāmbara influence—there is only one Digambara temple on the hills.
