There are two main Jain traditions on this:

• Digambara: Mahavira did not marry; he renounced worldly life and began his ascetic path as a bachelor.
• Śvetāmbara: Mahavira was married to Yaśodā (Yashoda) in his youth and they had a daughter named Priyadarśanā (also called Anojja in some texts).

In both traditions, he later left home to become an ascetic and eventually attained enlightenment.
