what it mandir margi? if one panth is mandir margi, what is the counerpart called?

    11 months ago 181

Mandir Margi means “the temple-path follower.” In Jain terminology, this is the description used for Jains who worship Tirthankaras with idols in temples. It is most closely associated with the Śvetāmbara Mūrtipūjaka group (often simply called Murtipujak or Deravāsī), i.e., temple-worshippers. ( jainknowledge.com)

    Counterpart

    • Within the Śvetāmbara tradition, the non–image-worshippers are called Sthanakvāsī (Sthanakvasi) or Terāpanthī. They reject idol worship and temple rituals and focus on meditation, scriptural study, and ethical living. Thus, the opposite of Mandir Margi is usually described as the Sthanakvasi/Terāpanthi path. • In Digambar Jainism, there is a different trajectory: many Digambar groups do not emphasize idol worship in temples, and Terapanth exists as a reformist Śvetāmbara offshoot that is non-idolatrous. So the precise “opposite” label tends to be the non-idolatrous path (Sthanakvasi/Terāpanthī) within the Śvetāmbara tradition; Digambar contexts use their own terms but share the general non-idolatrous emphasis. In short:

    • Mandir Margi = Mūrtipūjaka/Deravāsī (Śvetāmbara temple-worshippers).
    • Counterpart (non–image-worshippers) = Sthanakvāsī or Terāpanthī (within Śvetāmbara); Digambar contexts follow their own non-idolatrous traditions as well. ( jainknowledge.com)
