Teesra pad namo ayariyanam
Teesra pad (third pad) of Navkar Mantra is “Namo Ayariyanam.”
Meaning (arth):
- It is a salutation to the Ayariyas, i.e., the Jain monks who have renounced worldly life and are living the ascetic path with proper vows and conduct.
- This line distinguishes the monastic practitioners who follow the Jain path from the enlightened beings (Arihants) and the liberated souls (Siddhas).
Note: In Jain tradition, there are nuances between Digambar and Shwetambar interpretations of terms like Ayariya, but the essential sense is reverence to those who have undertaken and uphold strict ascetic vows.
