    Example of dhynanavarniy karm

    one year ago 68

In Jainism, Jnanavarniya Karma (ज्ञानावरणीय कर्म) refers to the category of karma that obscures or covers the soul’s innate knowledge (jnana). This karma prevents the soul from attaining and expressing true knowledge. There are five types of knowledge in Jainism, and this karma can obstruct any or all of them.

    Examples of Jnanavarniya Karma:

    1. Obstructing sensory knowledge (Mati Jnana):

A person is unable to understand or remember things seen or heard, even when trying hard to learn.

    1. Obstructing scriptural knowledge (Shruta Jnana):

A person reads scriptures but cannot comprehend their real meaning, or misunderstands religious discourses.

    1. Obstructing clairvoyance (Avadhi Jnana):

A being, even though spiritually advanced, is unable to perceive objects beyond the normal senses due to this karma.

    1. Obstructing telepathy (Manahparyaya Jnana):

Even a spiritually elevated soul cannot read others’ thoughts.

    1. Obstructing omniscience (Kevala Jnana):

This karma ultimately prevents the soul from attaining Keval Jnana (infinite, perfect knowledge).

Simple Example: If someone forgets important teachings or cannot grasp spiritual concepts despite sincere efforts, it is due to the bondage of Jnanavarniya Karma.

In summary: Jnanavarniya Karma is the type of karma that clouds the soul’s natural knowledge, causing ignorance and limiting understanding. Removing this karma through right conduct, knowledge, and austerities is essential for spiritual progress in Jainism.
