An act of sangh bhakti play

    one year ago 87

In Jainism, Sangh Bhakti refers to acts of devotion or service towards the Jain Sangh (community), which includes monks (sadhus), nuns (sadhvis), and lay followers (shravaks and shravikas). Performing or enacting a play (natak) focusing on Sangh Bhakti is a traditional and effective way to inspire devotion and community spirit, especially during festivals or religious gatherings.

Sample Outline for a Sangh Bhakti Play:

Title: "Sangh Ki Seva: Moksha Ki Ore" ("Service to the Sangh: Towards Liberation")

    Characters:

    • Shravan Kumar: A devoted lay follower
    • Sadhvi Pramoda: A learned nun
    • Bhikshu Anand: A pious monk
    • Village Elder
    • Children and other villagers

Scene 1: Shravan Kumar hears of a group of monks and nuns arriving in the village. He gathers the community to welcome them, clean the upashray (monastery), and prepare food (in accordance with Jain rules).

Scene 2: The Sangh arrives. The villagers respectfully greet them with folded hands, reciting "Micchami Dukkadam" and offer simple, pure food at the proper time.

Scene 3: Sadhvi Pramoda gives a sermon on the importance of Sangh Bhakti, quoting Jain scriptures: "Seva karne se punya milta hai, aur bhavya jeev moksha ki ore badhte hain." ("By serving the Sangh, one earns merit and progresses towards liberation.")

Scene 4: A problem arises—there is a shortage of water for the Sangh. The villagers work together, practicing aparigraha (non-possessiveness) and ahimsa (non-violence), to collect clean water without harming any living beings.

Scene 5: The Sangh blesses the villagers for their devotion and selfless service. The play ends with everyone resolving to continue Sangh Bhakti, highlighting the Jain values of humility, compassion, and spiritual progress.

Moral of the Play: Serving the Sangh is highly meritorious in Jainism. It helps purify the soul, fosters community spirit, and supports the path to liberation (moksha).

    Tips:

    • Include Jain prayers or bhajans (devotional songs) about Sangh Bhakti.
    • Emphasize key Jain principles like ahimsa, aparigraha, satya, and selfless service.
    • End with a message of unity and devotion to the Jain Sangh.

Such a play can be performed during Paryushan, Mahavir Jayanti, or temple gatherings to inspire and educate the community on the significance of Sangh Bhakti in Jainism.
