Is feeding pigeons necessary
From a Jain Dharma perspective, feeding pigeons is not a religious requirement or essential practice. Jains focus on ahimsa (non-violence) and minimizing harm to all living beings. Feeding birds can be a compassionate act, but it should be done mindfully:
- It’s optional, not mandatory.
- If you feed, use non-harmful foods and avoid creating harm (e.g., spoiled food, disease, or attracting pests).
- Be cautious of overdependence or crowding, which can lead to stress for the birds or ecological imbalances.
- The intention matters: kindness without attachment or pride, and without causing more suffering.
In short: not necessary, but it can be a small, mindful act of compassion if done with restraint and awareness of the broader welfare of living beings.
