Jains live all over India, but historically there have been concentrations in a few regions. The strongest Jain communities are in:

• Gujarat (especially cities like Ahmedabad and Patan)
• Rajasthan
• Maharashtra (including Mumbai and Pune)
• Karnataka (including Bengaluru)

Jains are a small minority in India, and within these communities there are both Digambar and Shvetambar traditions, with some regional customs in each. Today, Jain temples and communities can be found in many other states as well, and there are Jain diaspora communities abroad.
