List of 9 kashays which enhance krodh maan maya and lobh
There are four main kashayas (passions) in Jainism that commonly inflame krodh (anger), mana (ego/pride), maya (deceit), and lobha (greed):
- Krodh – Anger
- Mana – Ego/Pride
- Maya – Deceit
- Lobha – Greed
There are also nine no-kashayas (pseudo-passions) that trigger or intensify these kashayas:
1) Hashya – laughing or joking 2) Rati – pleasure from sensual activities 3) Arati – displeasure for sensual activities 4) Shoka – sorrow 5) Bhaya – fear 6) Jugupsa – disgust 7) Purushved – male sexual disposition 8) Strived – female sexual disposition 9) Napumsakaved – hermaphroditic disposition (attraction to both)
These no-kashayas can amplify the main kashayas as one progresses on the path.
