Am i doing wrong if i worship jain tirthankars and hindu gods

In Jainism, reverence for the Tirthankaras is central. Here’s a clear, simple view:

    • Worship of Tirthankaras: It is perfectly appropriate and foundational to veneration of the Tirthankaras (the 24 enlightened beings). This includes offering prayers, meditating on their teachings, and performing puja or samayik with a focus on renunciation, non-violence, and detachment.
    • Worship of Hindu gods: Traditional Jain practice does not include worship of Hindu deities as integral to Jain spiritual aims. Jains may show respect to all beings and may honour figures from other traditions in social or cultural contexts, but seeking boons or performing devotional rituals aimed at Hindu gods is not part of Jain dharma in its canonical sense.
    • Why the distinction matters: Jain practice emphasizes self-discipline, right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct as a path to liberation (moksha). Rituals centered on the Tirthankaras support that path. Mixing practices from other traditions can be done in everyday cultural contexts, but it should not replace or overshadow the core Jain aims or reinterpret Jain doctrine.
    • Digambar vs. Shwetambar nuances: Both traditions deeply honor the Tirthankaras. Some regional or community practices may differ in how temples, idols, and rituals are performed, but neither tradition treats Hindu gods as essential objects of Jain worship. If you’re unsure about a particular practice in your sangh, ask your local guru or senior monks for guidance.

If you’re feeling conflicted about your own practice, a simple approach is:

    • Strengthen your focus on the Tirthankaras and their teachings (ahimsa, aparigraha, anekantavada).
    • Reflect on your intent behind any ritual: is it leading you toward non-violence, truth, and spiritual progress, or is it shifting focus away from Jain aims?
    • Seek guidance from your Jain teacher to align your practice with Jain principles.

If you’d like, I can explain a specific Tirthankar puja or chant in a way that stays true to Jain meaning and tradition.
