• In Svetambara sources, Mahavir’s previous life is said to be Marici. According to that narrative, he was conceived by a Brahmin couple (Devananda) and then, by divine intervention, the embryo was moved to a Ksatriya womb (Trishala), leading to his royal birth in Kundagrama. This story links his past-life lineage to Brahmins and contrasts with his current Ksatriya birth.
• In Digambara tradition, the emphasis is on his birth in a Ksatriya (warrior) family without the Marici past-life narrative being central.

So, there are two traditional views:

• Svetambara: past-life name Marici with a Brahmin conception, later rebirth in a Ksatriya family.
• Digambara: focus on the Ksatriya birth itself, with less emphasis on the Marici past-life tale.

Both traditions agree on the core timeline: renunciation at 30, kevala jnana at about 12 years later, and nirvana at Pavapuri.
