Rani Chelna is a Jain storytelling figure from the time of Mahavira. According to Jain narratives, Chelna was the devout wife of King Shrenik (Bimbisara) of Magadha. Shrenik followed Buddhism and doubted the true practice and calmness of Jain monks. Chelna’s steadfast faith in Jain principles and her efforts to promote Jainism aroused concern in some quarters, but she is remembered for upholding ahimsa (non-violence) and right conduct.

Different Jain traditions sometimes recount small details of the tale in slightly different ways, but the core message remains: steadfast Jain devotion can influence people and towns toward non-violence and spiritual discipline.
