In Jain time, a pahar (prahar) is a time unit used for a quarter of the day/night. There are 8 pahars in a full 24-hour cycle (4 by day, 4 by night). A common approximate length is about 3 hours per pahar. Therefore, 24 pahars equal 24 × 3 hours = 72 hours, i.e., 3 days. Note: the exact length of a pahar can vary a little with seasons, but the 8-per-day scheme is the standard idea.
