Shape of earth
In Jain cosmology, the universe (loka) is described as a vast structure that is broad at the bottom, narrows toward the middle, and broadens again toward the top, like a cosmic figure or man standing with legs apart and arms resting on the waist. The middle region where humans live is called Madhya-loka, and its central continent is Jambudvipa, often described as a flat, circular disk surrounded by oceans and concentric landmasses. So, the “earth” (Jambudvipa) is depicted as flat and disc-shaped within the larger, standing-man shaped universe. There are small differences in exact measurements between Digambara and Śvetāmbara texts, but the overall shape—flat middle world within a cosmos shaped like a standing figure—remains consistent.
