2 ekasna is equivalent to 1 fast
In Jainism, ekasana means eating one meal in a day. If you have two ekasana, that is called biyasan (two meals in a day). It is not the same as a full Upavasa (complete fast) and does not equal “1 fast” in the strict sense. Ekasana is more stringent than typical daily eating but less than a full day of no food.
- Ekasana = one meal in a day.
- Biyasan (two ekasana) = two meals in a day.
- Upavasa = no solid food for a day (or longer, depending on the vow).
