how old is jain
Jainism is an ancient religion. Traditionally, it is said to go back many thousands of years, with its organized spiritual line beginning with the 24 Tirthankaras. The historical anchor often given by Jain sources is Mahavira, who is dated in many traditions to around 599–527 BCE. If you take that as a starting point, Jainism would be about 2,500 years old as of 2025.
Note: there are slight differences in dating between Digambara and Śvetāmbara traditions, and some modern scholars place Mahavira a bit earlier or later. But the common understanding is that Jainism is a very ancient, enduring tradition that predates many other ancient Indian philosophies.
