Gunasthāna means the stages of the soul’s spiritual progress on the path to liberation. In Jainism, a soul passes through fourteen Gunasthānas, as impurity decreases and purity increases, until it attains kevala jñāna (omniscience) and liberation. There are small differences in wording between Digambar and Śvetāmbara traditions, but the overall sequence and purpose remain the same: a gradual purification of belief (darśana) and conduct (charitra) leading to mokṣa.
